Why we are building it
Most budgeting apps are ledgers. They are very good at telling you what already happened and very bad at telling you what to do next. The work of turning a month of history into a decision at a checkout is left to you, every single day, forever.
That work is not hard. It is just relentless. Forecast the income, subtract the bills that have not arrived yet, subtract what you decided to save, divide what is left by the days remaining. It is arithmetic a computer should do.
Daylight does it, and reduces the result to one number for today. The rest of the app exists to make that number believable.
What we hold to
How we intend to make money
By charging for the app. That is the whole model, and it is deliberate: it is the only arrangement where our incentives and yours point the same direction.
We will not sell or broker transaction data, take commission on purchases, or run an advertising business on the side. Pricing will be published before launch and shown in full before anyone is asked to pay.
Where we are
Daylight is in development and will launch on iPhone first. We are building the audit engine, the recurring-expense forecaster, and the daily calculation, in that order, because none of the rest matters if the number is wrong.
If you want one email when it opens, join the list. There is no drip campaign behind it.
